Book Discussion: Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl

For the last few years the Peace & Justice center has offered a Reading Frederick Douglass Book Discussion Group led by Dr. Emily Bernard. This year Emily wanted to explore a woman’s perspective and experience from a similar time to Douglass. The PJC is happy to invite you to a reading of Harriet Ann Jacobs’ narrative “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl”. The book recounts Jacobs’ life, under the pseudonym Linda Brent, as she fights for freedom and identity for her and her children.

Where: The Peace & Justice Center

When: September 13th from 7:00 PM-8:30 PM.

You can pick up your free copy of “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl” at the PJC to read before the discussion.

This event is offered in partnership with Vermont Humanities Council.
