In the 1960s, the U.S. led the world in traffic safety. However, in recent decades, the U.S. has not seen the gains that other developed nations have experienced. Some argue this is due to a focus on vehicle and highway design countermeasures instead of programs aimed at improving the circumstances around driving behavior.
UVM’s Transportation Research Center will host speakers from VTrans and the Vermont State Police to discuss the complex topic of transportation safety with a focus on human factors such as driver behavior, performance and risk taking.
