Are you hearing about the challenges of the honeybee, an important pollinator here in VT and nationally? Thinking of getting started with bees? Ever wonder how they make so much yummy honey? We will take you inside the hive and maybe even help working on the hives. The overall tasks, equipment and methods used in beekeeping will be reviewed & demonstrated. We will break into smaller groups and learn about the hives and equipment for those who want to try it out. . . and you are always welcome to simply observe, take notes and learn. Markey & Tim have been homesteading on their property since 1998. They raise meat birds, ducks, egg layers, and have 3 cats in addition to the bees and gardens. Things will be in full bloom & operation so there will be plenty to see. If you are concerned about safety re: bees wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt — light colors are best (bees are attracted to dark colors). we will supply rubber bands to place around your ankles and wrists to discourage any bees from getting too friendly. If you plan to attend both sessions bring a lunch and beverages and relax on Tim & Markey’s deck and lawn.
