PRESENTATION: Melancholy Waifs and Strays: Life on the Streets of Victorian London

With Sarah Alexander, Assistant Professor, UVM Department of English

The Victorians both loved and feared London, both longed for a pastoral past and experienced London as a dazzling international city. This talk focuses on how Victorian Londoners experienced their city: from the slums immortalized by Dickens to descriptions and images of everyday life in London.
