The Flynn Center is pleased to announce that Toby MacNutt of Burlington is the newest recipient of the Vermont Artists’ Space Grant. During the 10-week creation process, she will develop a series of dance pieces with emphasis on choreographic movement.
As a dancer and person with disabilities, MacNutt has a unique relationship to the world and hopes to elucidate these differences through choreography. MacNutt’s project questions what constitutes a single body or a plurality, and the nature of bodies in relationship. Working with crutches—an external, removable item—MacNutt explores the various forces that define and depict relationships in dance: shape, motion, proximity, touch, gaze, and initiative.
