World Soccer Festival – to be held in the afternoon of Saturday August 25th at Lamoille Union High School

Celebrating the Global Love of Soccer

World Soccer Festival is a celebration of multiculturalism through soccer, music and food. The festival will include:
*a 3 v 3 World Cup soccer jamboree for elementary students
*an exhibition game of local international adult soccer players
*live world music and dance
*international food vendors

The festival’s central event is the International Exhibition Game between local international players, representing Ghana, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, England, the United States and many more from across the globe. These multicultural teams will exhibit stellar soccer skills in Hyde Park’s first ever international friendly soccer match.

Sambatucada, Vermont’s own high-energy Afro-Brazilian percussion group, accompanied by River Arts giant puppets, will create a traditional lively spectator atmosphere of music and dance during the International Exhibition Game that is sure to get the whole crowd moving. Sambatucada will be followed by Shidaa African Cultural Project, in which festival goers can join in West African drumming and dancing, led by guest Ghanaian dance instructor Gertrude Maalisou.

After the International Exhibition Game, the elementary jamboree participants will have their moment to shine on four-player teams representing world nations. Each child will participate in three 15-minute non-competitive games.

Players, families and community members will have the opportunity to visit a small market of local international food vendors and participate in activities for younger children, including face painting, drumming and dancing.
