Like every year the Indian Student Association is celebrating 13th annual celebration Diwali Night on Sunday, October 27th 2019 at 5 pm, in the Davis Center’s Grand Maple Ballroom. Diwali, the festival of light marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It is a fun filled evening of Indian food, music, and dance representing the varied cultural traditions from across India and Indian subcontinents.
This year is extra special, as for the first time ISA is hosting Padma Shri awardee legendary Indian folk singer Prahlad Tipanya from India to perform at Diwali. In addition to the music, we will have UVM President Suresh Garimella as our chief guest who will speak on Diversity mission of UVM. For over a decade, Diwali has been one of the major cultural festivity on the UVM campus. But, this event is not only important for UVM but as a whole for Burlington community to spread diversity and raise awareness on various cultures. Diwali 2018 was attended by over 500 guests and was featured on both local and UVM media as well.
This event is a step forward in our efforts to recognize the diverse cultures on UVM’s campus, as well as an attempt to highlight the international presence in our community.
