Convocation Ceremony & Twilight Induction (Mandatory)

This Event is Mandatory for First Year Students.

UVM’s president- Suresh Garimella – hosts this annual celebration that marks the official beginning of the academic year. After convocation join your class for a procession down Main Street and your induction into the UVM community with a unique UVM tradition – the candlelight ceremony.

Pro tip: Be prepared to snap some selfies the convocation walk down Main Street with your entire class – it’s a is a sight to behold! (Not to mention one of the only times you’ll get to walk in the road of one of BTV’s most trafficked arteries)


UVM’s Opening Weekend is a weekend designed just for incoming UVM students to help them connect with their peers, learn the ropes at UVM, and helps students acclimate to their new environment at college.  Opening Weekend begins with Friday’s First Year Move-In, and concludes with Twilight Induction.


UVM’s Week of Welcome begins the moment Opening Weekend ends, kicking off  a week long welcome celebration for all class years at UVM.  Mingle with your new friends or meet some new faces. Check out a Baseball game, go paintballing, or laugh it up at our annual comedy show – there’s loads to do as you navigate what life at UVM looks like for you.
