UVM Theatre presents “Pippin”

Find your corner of the sky as UVM Theatre presents the Tony Award-Winning musical Pippin.

Led by a charismatic Leading Player, a group of traveling actors tell the story of Pippin, a young prince who sets out on a quest to find true happiness. Pippin explores the glories of war, the temptations of love, and the intrigues of political power before discovering that perhaps happiness isn’t found in the extraordinary experiences of our lives, but in the ordinary moments of every day.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, creator of such iconic Broadway musicals as Godspell and Wicked, Pippin is filled with memorable songs including Magic to Do, Corner of the Sky, No Time at All, and Simple Joys.

UVM Theatre’s production of Pippin is directed by Department Chair Gregory Ramos and features seventeen talented and tireless UVM students. One special note: this production will be the final scenic design on the Royall Tyler stage, as a faculty member, by Professor Jeff Modereger. Professor Modereger is retiring at the end of the academic year after 26 years in the Department of Theatre. His talents and teaching skills will be missed.

Following the Thursday evening performance on February 28 there will be a post-show discussion led by director Gregory Ramos that will include UVM Theatre department faculty member Craig Wells (as an actor he has appeared on the Broadway stage in Les Miserables and Chess) and Lyric Theatre company Executive Director Jose Rincon. They will be joined by members of the case as they discuss the impact of American Musical Theatre on the world theatre scene.

Evening performances of Pippin are Wednesday thru Saturday, February 27 & 28 and March 1 & 2 at 7:30PM. Matinee performances will be presented on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 at 2PM. An additional evening performance will be presented on Sunday, March 3 at 7:00PM. Regular box office hours are Tuesday thru Friday from 11AM to 4PM. Tickets can be purchased during those times in person at the Royall Tyler Theatre box office, located at 116 University Place, or by calling 802-656-2094. Tickets can be purchased online 24/7 here.
