What, When, Where and How of Race Forums

Dear UVM Community,

In support and collaboration with earlier sessions Amazing GraceFinding Answers Together and Beyond Brave Spaces, the Center for Cultural Pluralism offers the two-sessions program, What, When, Where, and How of Race Forums, designed to increase our awareness and understanding of race and how to seek justice through actions.

We would like to invite you to the second session, which is focused on the concept of a multiracial identity. This program consists of a separate pre-recorded video lecture that can be watched prior to the live discussion and questions from the audience.

Session II: Multiracial: What are you?

How has the concept of race continued to change over time?  Is multiracial an old or new concept?  What are the meanings of the term?

This session creates space to:

• Explore the history of the term multiracial in America

• Examine our own personal development of an understanding of the concept

• Explore changes over time

Presenters: Prof. Nikki Khanna, Department of Sociology and Dr. Sherwood Smith, Lecturer in Integrated Professional Studies for CESS.

Date & Time: Friday, November 13th 1-2 PM
