WinterFest: Some Call it the Best Fest
2017 is in full swing. Excitement is high and temperatures are low, and the desire to hit the slopes is already getting in the way of your class schedule. Ladies and gents, WinterFest is upon us here at UVM. For those of you unfamiliar with WinterFest, we’re here to give you the low-down on what’s what, and let’s be real, where to get the free food.
WinterFest is basically a week full of awesome shows, fairs, films, food, raffles and more, happening all over campus to get you back in the UVM spirit after being away for so long over winter break (a month too long, to be exact). From free coffee to indoor ice skating (yes, it’s happening), there is an event for anyone and everyone, and we’re pumped about it.
FOOD!
FREE COFFE: All week long, University Program Board (UPB) will be giving away FREE (yes, free) coffee and hot chocolate from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in the Davis Center Atrium. You may even be able to snag a free limited edition Winterfest mug, given away on the hour. Check it out HERE.
BEN AND JERRY’S POWER HOUR: I love it, you love it, we all love it. It’s Ben and Jerry’s POWER HOUR. Swing through their Davis Center location on January 24th between 2:00 and 3:00 for your free scoop! But don’t forget to bring your UVM ID!
CANDY BUFFET: Colleges Against Cancer is at it again! Purchase a ticket for $1 to take part in their Candy Buffet to support funds to help the programs and mission of the American Cancer Society. Thursday between 10:00 and 2:00 outside the Bailey-Howe library!
WICKED WEDNESDAYS: If you haven’t experienced it yet, now’s your chance to head over to Brennan’s for Wicked Wednesdays, where trivia and food specials (umm did someone say $1 fries and $3 milkshakes?) happen from 9:00 – 11:00 pm. And yes, this deal happens every Wednesday!
DIY
CRAFTS AND SNACKS: Do It Yourself. Take a break from your day and get crafty in the Davis Center Grand Maple Ballroom with UPB for Crafts and Snacks: Make Your Own Journal and Planner. Be there Monday, January 23rd from 7:00-9:00 pm. Don’t forget your UVM ID!
DIY LAVENDER BAGS: Living Well (one of my personal favorite spots on campus) is always available for your de-stress needs, and the week of Winterfest is no different. Stop by Living Well on the first floor of the Davis Center on Tuesday, January 24th from 12:00-2:00 pm for DIY Lavender Rice Bags.
MUSIC, SPEAKERS AND MOVIES
AFTERNOON ACOUSTIC: The only thing better than a coffee house is pop-up coffee house in the middle of the week! Check out some of UVM’s finest in the Burack Fireplace Lounge in the Davis Center on Tuesday, January 24th between 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: This year’s Keynote speaker will be Sheyann Webb-Christburg. A nationally known author of the book “Selma, Lord, Selma: Girlhood Memories of the Civil Rights Days,” was referred to by Martin Luther King Jr. as the “Smallest Freedom Fighter.” Don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity to hear this badass lady speak on Tuesday, January 24th at 4:00.
LAST TRACKS FREE SCREENING: On Wednesday, January 25th at 7:00 pm in the Davis Center Livak Ballroom, check out this FREE film screening of Last Tracks, a documentary produced by Powe Snowboards, which will be followed by a discussion about how to get started in the industry!
