Preview: Earth Week At UVM

Earth Week 2017

Earth Day? Here at UVM we will be celebrating all week! Once again the University will be holding its annual Earth Week celebration from April 17th to the 21st to show appreciation for mother nature and everything she has to offer us in beautiful Burlington, Vermont! This year, there will be some awesome events to get you involved and out and about to enjoy the gorgeous spring weather. In order to make sure that you don’t miss out on any of the festivities, the Bored Team has compiled a list of our favorite events going on during Earth Week! Be sure to mark your favorites on a calendar of your own 🙂

UVM Earth Week will be kicked off with Meatless Monday on April 17th! Did you know that a large amount of the greenhouse gasses that we as humans produce, come from the meat industry? Well, Meatless Monday will be a great way that you can show your support for our planet and its many wonderful animals! Taking yourself out of this process can really make a huge difference!

Speaking of food… Every day this week, each dining hall on campus will be participating in the Real Food Challenge! Join this national student-led movement and enjoy your sustainably sound meals all week long!

In the evening of April 17th, UPB will be hosting Crafts and Snacks in the Grand Maple Ballroom from 7-9! Come get your creative on and make some crafts with sustainable and recycled materials while enjoying some scrumptious snacks from local vendors.

On April 19th starting at 11 am, whether you are walking to class or back to your dorm, walk through the Davis Center and check out the Farmer’s Market! Browse produce and other products that Vermont’s best have to offer! Whether you stop to get some fresh veggies, some tasty snacks, or even a hot lunch, you will be nothing less than stoked with your awesome purchase!

Later that evening at 9pm, head on down to Brennan’s to enjoy some friendly competition with your fellow Catamounts. Form a team, answer some sustainability themed trivia, and win some awesome swag! Also, be sure not to miss Brennan’s $1 fries and $3 milkshakes!

And finally, have you heard that the People’s Climate March is on again? Saturday, April 29th in Washington DC! UVM Stands is bringing a bus-full of students down – a bus seat is only $20! Sign-ups are happening in the Davis Center Atrium on Friday, 4/14 between 2-4pm (and 4/21 if seats are still available).

So there you have it! These are just a few of our favorite events for UVM Earth Week but there is so much more to do! To find out more about Earth Week events, check out the BORED calendar, look for the “Interests” tab, and scroll down to Earth Week, to see a compiled list of all things Earth Week related or simply search Earth Week in the search bar (or click this link)!

We hope to see you all at these events and most importantly, get outside and enjoy the beautiful spring weather! ♥
