HEY there’s some great music coming to town this semester. There’s funky dancedance, classical goodness, tried-n-true jam jams, umphy soul, unbelievable rapsmithing and trinkety boogie tunes comin’ your way. Check out some of these highlights!

Crywolf w/ Guthrie Galileo

WHERE: Higher Ground

WHYGuthrie Galileo’s voice makes ya say “dang.” Come feel the good R&B feels as he opens for Crywolf, another CA-born multi-instrumentalist with intimate lyrics.

The Suitcase Junket w/ Upstate Rubdown

WHEN: Friday, 10/6 at 8:30PM

WHERE: Higher Ground

WHY: The Suitcase Junket describes himself as a swamp yankee one-man-band and also he has a real-life curly mustache. Don’t wanna miss that. Upstate Rubdown is a super great septet with three powerhouse lady singers. I am a HUGE FAN.

Joan Soriano

WHEN: Saturday, 10/7 at 7:30PM

WHERE: UVM Recital Hall

WHY: Take advantage of UVM’s Lane Series, which brings really really cool and accomplished musicians to campus for student-affordable prices. Joan Soriano, a.k.a El Duque de Bachata (The Duke of Bachata), is bringing a new sound to the UVM stage with his 6 person band: addictive rhythms from the Afro-Caribbean world combined with his gorgeous singing, intricate steel string guitar playing, and sensuous dance moves. Come at 6:30 to talk with the artists!!!

Jenny Besetzt w/ Bison

WHEN: Sunday, 10/8 at 6pm

WHERE: The Monkey House

WHY: Jenny Besetzt and Bison both have good good, upbeat beats and good good lyrics so come dance and listen! Bison is a nomadic disco punk band made up of three lovely weirdo UVM alums, and they always put on a good show.

 UVM FallFest:
Snakehips w/ Vundabar & Kudu Stooge

WHEN: Saturday, 10/4 at 8PM

WHERE: UVM Patrick Gym

WHY: UPB hooked it up this year with fun electronic duo Snakehips. Vundabar (great lyrics!) and UVM’s own Kudu Stooge are opening ~ all acts worth coming out for.

Pinact w/ Cave Bees and Vex & Silence

WHY: Here’s the place to be if ya wanna rock out a bit! One of the openers, Vex & Silence, is three UVM students with some catchy dancey rock tunes ~ don’t miss out on the up-and-comin’ band on campus 🙂

WRUV’s Rocktoberfest with Milo

WHY: !!!!!!! Milo is a wordsmith from another planet!!!!!! Do not miss!!!! Cannot complete full sentences because all of Milo’s sentences are so much better I do not understand how he is human ?

Yo-Yo Ma & Kathryn Stott

WHEN: Thursday, 11/2 at 7:30PM

WHERE: Flynn Center for the Performing Arts

WHY: Because Yo-Yo Ma is arguably the best cellist alive and he’s coming HERE. Also Kathryn Stott is an incredible pianist. Together they have created Grammy-winning collaborations. This time around they will be bringing you Russian compositions and all-around breath-taking music.

Caroline Rose & Hammydown w/ Julia Caesar

WHEN: Thursday, 11/16 at 8:30PM

WHERE: ArtsRiot

WHY: These are a whole buncha dope musicians ~ they all happen to be female, but that’s beside the point. The point is, Caroline Rose is a rockstar singer & guitarist, and so is her opener Hammydown. The band Julia Caesar features powerful and refreshing vocal harmonies from 3 local ladies.
