How to get through it

Sometimes, you need a few reminders to help you get through the tough parts of life. Reminders can be people you love, intangible memories, your favorite picture, or even an old shirt. Above all else, you can be your own reminder. Look how far you have come and how many obstacles you have overcome to reach this point. You deserve to remember the confidence you had in yourself as a child. Whatever it may be, find something that reminds you that you deserve love from yourself. Below, you’ll find some quotes that remind me how invaluable the experiences of life are, pushing me to seek out more, no matter how tough.

My Reminders

“May you find someone who speaks your language so you don’t have to spend your life translating your soul.”  Dr. Therma Bryant

“I confess I do not know why, but looking at the stars always makes me dream.” – Van Gogh

“So, if you are too tired to speak, sit next to me because I, too, am fluent in silence.” – R. Arnold

“The world is cruel, therefore I won’t be.”

“A butterfly does not become a butterfly without isolation.”

“I deserve the world so I’ll give it to myself.”

“Sometimes you don’t get what you want because you deserve better.”

“When was the last time you did something for the first time?” – John C. Maxwell

“Come on, dance with me. The earth is spinning. We can’t just stand on it.” – Dino Ahmetovic

A powerful way to approach life’s challenges is with community. It may be scary to seek out new groups, but there’s no worse feeling than the regret of not doing something. If you’re unsure where your community may be, UVM has over 275 clubs involving sports, nature, games, academics, the arts, and other niche topics, and you can even start your own club! You can always stop by SGA with any questions or to say hi! Maybe you’re looking to connect with the Burlington community via an internship. And, if you’re feeling bored, check out our events calendar to see what’s up around town.

I’ll leave you with a classic…

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference” – Robert Forest
