Summer Beaches, Hiking, and…Jobs.
The following is a guest blog written by the UVM Career Center.
As we head into summer, know that the Career Center is here to support you – whether you’re looking for a summer job at home, a soon-to-be grad looking for a full-time job, trying to secure an internship for the fall, or looking to spend some time reflecting on your post-grad goals. The Career Center is happy to report that they’re seeing a surge in hiring across many industries and locations, and they are here to help you!
So, how can you connect with them this summer?
How-to Modules on Blackboard
Did you know the Career Center has a whole Blackboard site that features over a dozen videos and modules that outline everything you need to know about narrowing your career interests, finding an internship, writing a resume, conducting an interview, negotiating your salary, and more? Get the details by visiting uvm.edu/career/blackboard.
Request Feedback on your Resume / Cover Letter
In their Blackboard site, you can also upload your resume or cover letter for feedback. They will get back to you within a day or two with advice on how to really make yourself stand out in an applicant pool.
Get Started on UVM Connect
Thousands of UVM alums are eager to offer advice and mentorship via an exclusive platform called UVM Connect. What’s great about this tool is that alums have already indicated how they are willing to help – whether that’s hosting you for a (virtual) job shadow, telling you what it’s really like to work at a particular company, or sharing their advice for making a cross-country move post-grad. You can sync your profile from LinkedIn and get started messaging alums today.
Register for the Career Readiness Retreat
Did you graduate this year? Great – the Career Center has designed this post-graduation program to help you launch, jump start, or fine-tune your post-grad job search. It will run for 3 weeks starting after graduation, with sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 1pm via Teams. Get the full details and register at uvm.edu/crr21.
Schedule a One-on-One Appointment
You can meet with a Career Counselor for personalized advice and insight about your major, career exploration, job or internship search, and more. Self-schedule via Handshake.
Remember, students from all class years are encouraged to consult the Career Center’s online resources and can connect with a Career Counselor any time this summer. For more info, visit their website at uvm.edu/career.
